PA Health System Strikes Artificial Intelligence Partnership
Temple University Health System has partnered with Aidoc to leverage artificial intelligence to optimize clinical operations and reduce the cost of care.

By - Pennsylvania-based Temple University Health System (Temple Health) and artificial intelligence (AI) healthcare solution company Aidoc have partnered to use AI to reduce the length of stay and cost of care by optimizing clinical operations.
Through the collaboration, Temple Health will implement Aidoc’s AI Care Platform for use in its cardiovascular, neurosciences, and radiology departments. According to the press release, the platform will help Temple Health identify patients in need of intervention, prioritize patients with suspected urgent medical conditions, and streamline communication across care teams.
These efforts are set to help shorten length of stay in Temple Health’s hospitals, which could help lower the overall cost of care. According to a study published in Radiology Research and Practice, which evaluated the Aidoc platform’s performance at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, using the platform helped reduce hospital length of stay by 1.3 days for patients suffering brain bleeds and 2.07 days for patients suffering lung blood clots.
"As the challenges of sustaining delivery of high-quality care continue to mount, we at Temple Health continue to seek solutions that can accomplish two things — support our physicians in improving clinical efficiency and reducing the overall cost to deliver the care," said Nick J. Barcellona, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Temple Health, in the press release. "In Aidoc, we have found a collaborator and platform whose solutions have demonstrated in both research and real-life clinical settings the ability to do just that. We believe these AI solutions, for both medical imaging and care coordination, will give our physicians the tools they need to streamline clinical processes."
This partnership expands Temple Health’s use of Aidoc’s solutions. The press release states that the health system has already integrated several of Aidoc’s medical imaging AI offerings into its hospitals and is leveraging the company’s care coordination solutions for its cross-specialty care response teams.
Further, Temple University Hospital serves as a safety net hospital in the Philadelphia area. The press release states that the partnership with Aidoc will help the health system continue to provide high-quality care to its patient population.
Other health systems have also partnered with Aidoc to shorten length of stay and improve care.
In January, Novant Health announced that it would collaborate with Aidoc to leverage AI to accelerate treatment for patients in the emergency department. At the time, Novant Health, like many other health systems, was experiencing resource constraints in the wake of the Omicron variant surge. To combat this, the health system implemented Aidoc’s platform to reduce emergency department length of stay and improve patient outcomes.
