- The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) will be welcoming Doug Fridsma, MD, PhD, FACP, FACMI, as its new President and CEO. Fridsma will be leaving his post as the Chief Science Officer at the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) after four years in the federal sphere.
“The AMIA Board of Directors is delighted Dr. Fridsma will be our new President and CEO as a knowledgeable, compassionate, and effective leader who will ably serve AMIA and our members,” said Blackford Middleton, MD, MPH, MS, FACMI, Chair, Board of Directors.
“Dr. Fridsma has rich experiences in both academic and government settings where he has focused his energy toward advancing state-of-the-art health informatics technologies,” Middleton added. “As a longtime AMIA member and national leader, he has a keen understanding of the science of informatics as well as the application of informatics to transform care. He brings a well-informed perspective from the practitioner, policymaker, and investigator points-of-view to help define not only what informaticians know, but also what informaticians do to transform care.”
Fridsma leaves behind notable accomplishments including the development of the Standards and Implementation Framework and a key role in building the Federal Health Architecture of health IT investments across the Social Security Administration, Department of Defense, and Department of Veterans Affairs.
